Total Disaster Averted

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

After three days and several calls to techie friends, I was finally able to find my backups and get them uploaded, so all is not lost.  Yay!

It was a crazy day at work today.  CRAZY.  Between Battle Book orders and school price quotes and used book trades, I figure I’m about three days behind schedule.  It looks like I’ll be putting in some overtime this week.

Just when I needed a smile, guess who walks in the door?  Michael!  He’s in town from D.C. for the Tanana Valley Fair.  He’s always a ray of sunshine.

Disaster Strikes

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

While upgrading my blog software I accidentally deleted the entire contents of the blog.  Several four-letter words flowed forth from my mouth at an alarming volume.  (My apologies to any neighbors within shouting distance.)  I tried to upload the backup I did before upgrading and that didn’t work.  More expletives deleted.  All I have are drafts.  Oh, the humanity!  Yes, a crashing blog can be compared to a crashing blimp.  This was not the way I pictured my Sunday morning.  Deep breaths, no use crying over it.  Sorry to everyone whose comments have vanished into the ether.  I’m going to try to resurrect whatever I can.  So here we go, starting over from scratch.

NaNo Almost Over

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

So it’s been a while.  Have been focusing on NaNoWriMo and I’m at just under 45K.  The two people I work with at the bookstore both quit the challenge before the first week was over.  Despite the advice I gave to the new NaNo’ers: ignore the backspace; if you make a spelling error don’t delete, just retype it with the correct spelling.  Hey, if you can type 30 words per minute you can get through the daily 1667 in under an hour.  Tomorrow’s Thanksgiving.  If everything goes well I’ll be confirming my 50K tomorrow and spend the rest of the long weekend catching up on my reading.  I’ll be posting more, blogging more, in the upcoming year, really I will.

NaNoWriMo & Halloween

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Countdown to NaNoWriMo; Less than twelve hours to the start.  Goal for the first weekend is to hit 5K, got nothin’ else planned on the social calendar.  I want to get ahead early this year so I can gorge myself on Thanksgiving and then spend that whole long weekend processing the gluttony.  Going to write something dark I think, but maybe it’s just Halloween’s influence.

I got a goody bag at work today, filled with garlic ‘cause it “Keeps Dracula away.”  To the lady who gave it to me: Denice, that is the best, most creative Halloween goody bag ever!  Love the garlic.

Maybe I’ll do a vampire story for NaNoWriMo, they’re always popular.

Launch

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

Launched the site a few weeks ago, it could use some work.  My parents visited and stayed at the house for about two weeks.  It took me some time to recover, and then I started my new schedule at Gulliver’s.  Not certain what possessed me to start a six am to two pm workday but it’s interesting.  The going to bed at nine pm is a little hard so I haven’t been getting my full eight hours.  I’ve become an earlybird four decades before my time.  But my afternoons have been productive.  And now I’m off to the PNBA fall trade show.  Already dreaming about all the free books and trying to figure out how to fit them all in my suitcase.
